This was an EPIC story of two young, powerful, and influential people rejecting the concept that things must be a certain way as commanded by a narrow-minded old person who thinks they have it all figured out and young people must ultimately want what he wants. Could the underlying idea be more relevant but also timeless? Rey is a Skywalker because she relates to their struggles more than Palpatine. She builds off the lessons of Anakin, Luke, Leia, and Ben thus putting the story to rest while honoring their sacrifices. How is that not a plot line or story worth telling?
To address the elephant in the room. haters gonna hate. Please see the movie as a positive fan like you were when you were young and saw episode IV - VI. Many of the reviews here are laced with such negativity that I almost feel sorry for them. Story telling is challenging, and SHOULD evolve in lots of different ways. As an avid Star Wars fan, I can say it held true to lots of canon and legends material, and I wish I could address all the comments I"ve seen incorrectly shouting down concepts that indeed exist in the Star Wars universe, but there isn"t time. If you Chase a feeling, you will never be content. If you"ve ever had a perfect vacation, then gone back and tried to re-create it years later you know the disappointment this can cause. Make new adventures. Let it go and remember the good. Enjoy the new with the old. You will be happier and more appreciative.
